July//Round One
June 2011 ended on the gayest note possible: GAY MARRIAGE LEGALIZED IN NEW YORK AND PRIDE WEEKEND! So I’ve been feeling pretty good and instead of putting that energy toward more important matters I decided to serve up July’s first playlist early.
I’ve had a pride hangover, the good kind, meaning I want to dance more and I haven’t been able to shake the summer/chillwave mood I’ve been in so this one is a direct product of both. Also up for this month is The Rapture’s leaked “How Deep Is Your Love?” Should it be online? Probably not. My shitty excuse for posting it here: I found it somewhere else. And because I can’t get enough Jhameel, there’s another Jhameel song here. There’s a lot of stuff here I’m excited about!

June//Round Two
Holy tornado tits! A crazy storm just ripped through Chicago, Pride weekend is two days away, tritium is leaking into groundwater and the second playlist for June is up!
This one is a bit jagged and/or abrupt. The last song is a pretty amazing Arcade Fire cover that I really enjoy. I wanted this one to feel fun and light at the beginning, maybe-make-you-think-about-going-to-watch-people-dance in the middle and ready for bed/sunset porch drinking at the end. Tracklist follows.
Please leave feedback!

Habibi//001
This is the first mix cd I made for the bf way back in 2007 (or 2008, I’m not sure.) Overall it’s pretty standard “give me over the pants grope action.” I’ve posted it here and plan to sporadically update with more in the same vein. The idea is to gauge how I felt back then and periodically make new mixes to see how those feelings have evolved.
Sounds dumb.

April//Round Three
“The One Where I Add Commentary and Completely Fail At Understanding Dubstep”
For this third offering I wanted to show that I have a wide appreciation of music and that I’m able to meld it together into something cohesive/enjoyable…failure. I started with the idea of building something around James Blake, since everyone is still shitting themselves over him (I admit, I like him a lot.) I ended up going back to Four Tet out of frustration over and over again. What resulted is this smattering of tracks.
Four Tet went first because I’ve been listening to his stuff ever since I had a radio show in college, think 2004 and being old. Hercules came next mostly because I over-heard some one shouting about it at a party we had. Holy Other/Supreme Cuts seemed like “duh” additions. I made a promise to myself to work in nearly every track of Discovery’s LP because I have a major boner for Rostam, in the most gay way possible. I’m just now getting into Jamie Woon and really dug this particular track. SertOne was a frantic addition and that was not a complete sentence. The back to back-ness of Pantha Du Prince and Panda Bear is cheating but I felt the two songs created this nice “lay down and close your eyes” vibe that can be otherwise classified as mildly “chillwave” but I don’t like to use that word. Daily Mirage felt like it flowed nicely and also a nice segue into Wilhelms Scream. Braids was smushed in there to create some cushion. Parachute Pulse was added because I felt it was lacking class. Dream Cop was added at the end again because I was feeling cheap and I felt it was a nice bookend.
This is the last one for April and thanks for the feedback!
